Things To Do

Hilton is a small traditional fishing village, offering peace and tranquility, located on the inner Moray Firth 8 miles from Tain, 6 miles from Nigg and the Cromarty Ferry in Easter Ross. Enjoy walks along the coastline viewing dolphins, seals, a myriad of sea birds and their habitats. Visit the site of the Hilton of Cadboll cross-slab Pictish stone, and the ruins of St Mary’s Chapel. Walk south through this quaint old traditional highland scottish village, follow the Sculpture Trail and view the Mermaid of the North, continue to Balintore harbour and onwards to the “Keep Scotland Beautiful” award winning golden sands of Shandwick Bay.

Easter Air Field- 

This privately owned airfield is within 2 miles of Aith Voe BnB - very convenient if flying in on a visit and you require accommodation for a night or more.


The Black Isle Visit Cromarty, home of Hugh Miller, and dolphin watch at Chanonry Point.


Visit the Black Isle Brewery and mark your calendar for the Black Isle Show -Annual event held on the 1st Thursday and Friday of August.


Inverness and Loch Ness – Visit the capital of the Highlands and then on to Loch Ness and catch a glimpse of The Monster.


Isle of Skye – Visit the romantic Isle and view spectacular scenery.


North West Highlands – Take a circular route via Dornoch, Dunrobin Castle, Wick and Thurso and across to Cape Wrath via Durness then down the West coast via Kinlochbervie and Lochinver returning via Ledmore, Rosehall and The Falls of Shin.


Wester Ross – A comfortable day trip from the North Sea to the Atlantic. Going via Dingwall, Garve and Braemore, visit Corrieshalloch Gorge and on to Ullapool. Then south via Dundonnel to Gruinard Bay, Aultbea to Poolewe and Inverewe Gardens. From Poolewe to Gairloch then along Loch Maree to Kinlochewe and back East to Dingwall.


Orkney Isles – A whistle stop tour of Orkney can be completed in one day. There are fully escorted tours picking up in Tain and returning via Tain after an eventful and full day.


Local attractions in Easter Ross include :


The Pictish Trail – A memorable day spent visiting the Pictish Stones located at Hilton, Shandwick and Nigg. The original carved base of the Hilton Stone can be viewed in The Seaboard Hall. A visit to the Seaboard Sculpture Trail is a highlight of the day viewing The Mermaid of the North and learning some of the local history of the Seaboard Villages.


Birdwatching – Nigg Bay has a profusion of birds which attract visitors from all over the world. The RSPB have provided hides to enhance the experience and to give the best possible opportunity to view birds at close quarters.


Fishing – Local sea angling can be arranged from Portmahomack. Fly fishing is readily available throughout the area with notable rivers being The Shin, Oykell, Castley, and The Carron. There is also trout fisheries available locally.


Golf – Challenging links courses are located at Royal Tain, Royal Dornoch, Portmahomack, Invergordon, Alness, and Bonar Bridge.


Coastal Walks – Walk north from Hilton along the shore of the Moray Firth and view grey seals, dolphins and possibly a minkie whale. The walk can take you as far as Balone Castle and Tarbatness lighthouse without encountering any traffic.

Walk from Hilton south along Shandwick Bay to Nigg Hill and see spectacular cliff scenery with many species of nesting sea birds in season.
